A video that went viral on social media on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, shows police colliding with a patrol car into two young men who were traveling on a motorcycle in San Cristóbal de las Casas, Chiapas. Tragically, as a result of the impact, one of the young men lost his life.
The incident occurred on Saturday, November 9, when the two young men were riding a motorcycle through the streets of Chiapas and came across a caravan of police traveling in trucks. Suddenly, one of the patrol cars struck the young men who were traveling in the opposite direction, causing the tragic death of one of them.
Fabiola Ricci Diestel, head of the municipal presidency of San Cristóbal, confirmed that the events occurred around 14:00 hrs on the past Saturday. According to her account, the police were on their way to attend a report of aggression against a vehicle, at which point the fatal encounter with the young men on the motorcycle occurred.
In the video captured by security cameras, it is observed how the police caravan passes by the two young men on the motorcycle, who are abruptly struck by the patrol car without any warning. This impact resulted in the death of one of the young men due to head injuries, while the other was rushed to the hospital for medical attention.
Meanwhile, the families of the injured young men are demanding justice for the death of one of them. The father of the deceased 17-year-old has expressed his desire for the facts to be clarified and for the truth about what happened to be known. As for the officer driving the patrol responsible for the tragic event, he is in the custody of the Altos Prosecutor's Office to determine the corresponding responsibilities.
